Termination at Project End or Term End

Termination at Project and Term End

In some industries, fixed term employment contracts are common.

Dismissal occurs if that term expires and the employment contract is not renewed. An employment contract can be considered a fixed term employment contract even if there is a provision for prior notice.

Where you offer a fixed term employment contract you are required to specify that fixed term in the terms and conditions of employment.

An employment contract ending with the completion of a project or other event is not a fixed term employment contract. If an employee is taken on to perform a project and that project has been completed, then terminating that employee's employment on completion of the project is not dismissal. The employment contract may be considered legally to have been discharged once the project is over.
